Review: Origin (Lux, #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

After finishing the third installment in Armentrout's Lux series, Opal, I wasn't sure I'd survive the cliffhanger she left her readers with.  I have always been a fan of countdowns, but this installment honestly could not come soon enough.  As soon as it became available I jumped to get my own copy and was soon devouring the pages in hopes that she'd take care of the anxiety I was left with the last time around.  Oh how wrong I was.  Armentrout, if anything only ramped up the suspense (yet again) with this installment and quite honestly I couldn't believe that with each page came another round of wide eyes and a racing heartbeat.

If readers were worried (and who wouldn't be) about the mess Katy would find herself in after being caught and left behind in the hands of Daedalus, Armentrout proved that we had reason to be feeling this way.  While well written, what Katy endured definitely affected my heart strings and left me counting down the pages until somehow she'd get away.  Whether by rescue or escape I just wanted her out of their clutches.  The surprises were not in short supply with this installment, and readers will be expected to keep up or be left behind themselves, because the amount of action packed into this title was definitely not lacking in any way.

Character development went a long way this time around, especially when it came to our girl.  She went through so much and yet with each turn of the page a new side of her was revealed and I had to admit that as a reader I was proud.  These characters have always felt real and like friends of a certain kind, so to see her in action and powering through despite what was constantly being thrown at her had me wanting to cheer her on and remind her that she wasn't alone.  But along with Katy of course comes Daemon.  Finally a chance to get his point of view, his words, his feelings, etc...it was a treat and one I hope will continue with the rest of the series.

The bottom line is, as always, I can't see any reader and fan of this series as well as Armentrout's writing being disappointed in any way this time around.  Yet another gripping, and highly entertaining installment for the series and Armentrout's works, that once again has left her readers (namely me!) panting for more.  Yet again, I was counting down until we were given the chance to read Opposition, the fifth installment in the series...and as of today, everyone can get their own copy as it's also release day!  So if you haven't read Origin, get on that right away so you can grab the next title and catch up to the rest of us!

Countdown: January 2014

With only a month left in 2013 I think there's plenty to do to keep most of us busy.  Not only are the holidays right around the corner, but the weather outside is making sure we're all staying on our toes...never knowing what kind of scene we'll wake up to on the other side of our windows.  Now if I could wake up to a scene like the picture to your left...I'd be more than OK with it.  Since we can't all walk outside and enjoy a view like this one, I do my best to find escape in the fabulous books we can all look forward to in the new year.  2014 is right around the corner, and there are already more new releases about to hit the shelves than I know what to do with.  My TBR list has no chance of getting smaller anytime soon, but I'll never complain about something like that.  Here are a few titles I'm looking forward to checking out in January.

 

Countdown Pick #1:  Afterparty by Anne Redisch Stampler (01/07/2014)

The cover alone refused to let me leave this page without knowing more about this upcoming release.  Stampler's writing was fabulous with her debut and I'm anxious to see what she brings to the table for her readers next.  I mean look at that cover?!  I can only imagine what readers will find happening at this infamous afterparty.

 

Countdown Pick #2:  Evertrue (Everneath, #3) by Brodi Ashton (01/21/2014)

There are so many readers and fans out there chomping at the bit to see how Ashton will wrap things up for her stunning trilogy.  I'm not even quite sure as to what I'm hoping happens within these pages, I'm so torn, but I have no doubt that it will be a thrilling ride...one I can't wait to experience.

 

Countdown Pick #3:  Unhinged (Splintered, #2) by A.G. Howard (01/07/2014)

 

Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. I was lucky enough to check out a sampler chapter for this sequel a few months ago and after just one chapter, I wanted more!  With her spin on a classic that I've always loved, I'm looking forward to seeing where Howard will take Alyssa on her journey and of course what else readers will get to enjoy once she fall through the rabbit hole yet again...we all know it's inevitable, right?

 

Countdown Pick #4:  Being Sloane Jacobs by Lauren Morrill (01/07/2014)

I realize this sounds very much like The Parent Trap and probably a ton of other movies and books we've all seen at one point or another, but I don't care to be honest.  I loved The Parent Trap, and this sounds like it could be both light and funny, while also heartfelt and moving, and I'm completely on board with those combinations.

 

Countdown Pick #5:  Vitro (Origin, #2) by Jessica Khoury (01/14/2014)

I've had Khoury's series opener, Origin on my TBR list for longer than I care to admit, but now I feel like there's extra insentive for me to wipe it off the list.  This sequel coming out next month sounds even more exciting than her first did, but I'm not the type to go out of order, so I'll be circling back to the book that started it all and working my way up from there...anxious to see where this all goes.
