ARC Review: The Uprising (The Forsaken, #2) by Lisa M. Stasse

In this dystopian sequel to The Forsaken, Alenna has survived the brutality of life on the wheel—and now she’s going back for more.

Alenna escaped. It was expected that she would die on the wheel, the island where would-be criminals are sent as directed by the UNA—the totalitarian supercountry that was once the United States, Mexico, and Canada. But Alenna and her boyfriend, Liam, made it to safety. Except safety, they will soon learn, is relative.

In order to bring down the UNA, they must first gain control of the wheel. If the mission succeeds, the wheel will become a base of revolution. But between betrayals, a new Monk leading a more organized army of Drones, and the discovery of a previously unknown contingent, Alenna, Liam, and their allies might be in over their heads. One thing Alenna knows for sure: There will be a reckoning. And not everyone she loves will make it out alive.
Stasse is keeping this series alive, with a stunningly action packed and intense sequel.  After everything Alenna and Liam and the rest of the gang that was forced to live and survive on the wheel had to go through with her series opener, The Forsaken, I don't think any of us following this series knew quite what to expect the second time around.  Some have been reuinted and others are still left to wonder what will happen to those left on the wheel that they had grown to care about.  From the very start tensions are running high and Alenna and Liam, along with readers weren't sure who they could trust outside of themselves.

Getting a deeper look at the scientists and rebel reformists was a fascinating new chapter within this sequel.  With the first book centering only on the wheel and how anyone could attempt to get off, or at the very least survive long enough to try was all I was focused on.  Now we find our favorites off the wheel, but desperate to get back on in order to rescue everyone else and finally bring an end to the tyranny of those who created the wheel to begin with.

From the second that Alenna and Liam are getting ready to part ways (I won't elaborate to avoid spoilers) I was a wreck.  They were finally together!  I had a hard time dealing with their choices and just about drove myself crazy thinking of everything that could possibly happen to them that would keep them apart going forward.  But the bottom line remains that anyone who enjoyed Stasse's series opener, will find themselves thrown right back into things where they had last left off, and once again taking part of an action packed adventure, where every twist and turn threatens to destroy everyone we've come to love and everything we've been holding out hope for to come to realization.  Grab yourself a copy and see where things go from here, and for readers out there that missed out on The Forsaken, I suggest getting yourself caught up, because when the third installment in this series comes out, I have a feeling that no one will want to be far behind.
